| This image was produced as a response to the 3Dluvr websites competition on the age of steam.
I struggled at first to find a subject for an image, until I stumbled across a web site for the
Baltimore and Ohio railway museum. One of the images showed a 1950's streamlined Hudson steam
train and I fell in love. I thought its lines held something special about it and reminded me
of some of the golden era designs of the USA, the Greyhound bus, the Coca-Cola bottle etc of Lowey and other designers.
So I set to work producing this model. Towards the end of its production I discovered and even earlier version of the streamlined Hudson that evoked this era even more strongly, but its was too late for a switch and I had to stick with this model for the competition. The final outcome was that I missed the competitions deadline by six hours by oversleeping.... The reason? I was working fulltime during this period and I had gone to sleep for four hours, before planning to finishing the image off and posting it for the GMT deadline of 5.30am. Unfortunately the alarm didn't go off as planned and I missed the deadline. Still it was fun. Below is this finished image and a sample of my modelling resources for the Hudson class steam train. |
